APhA Foundation Names 2017 Student Scholarship Program Recipients


WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Foundation today announced the recipients of its 2017 Student Scholarship Program. The student scholarships are awarded to recognize exceptional leadership skills and academic achievement through active involvement in the APhA Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP).


This year, the program received 48 applications from student pharmacists in 39 schools and colleges of pharmacy. The 2017 recipients are:

  • Kaitlin Bova – Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy, Gloria Francke Scholarship

  • Evan Colmenares – UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Juan and Esperanza Luna Scholarship

  • Amanda D’Ostroph – UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, APhA Foundation Scholarship

  • Jade Kutzke – South Dakota State University College of Pharmacy, Sam Kalman Scholarship

  • Michelle Leatherwood – Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy, Charles C. Thomas Scholarship

  • Jordan Long – Cedarville University School of Pharmacy, John A. Gans Scholarship

  • Kevin Mai – Western University of Health Sciences College of Pharmacy, Robert D. Gibson Scholarship

  • Ashley Maister – Thomas Jefferson University Jefferson College of Pharmacy, Mary Louise Andersen Scholarship

  • Nancy Moua – University of New England College of Pharmacy, Paul Pumpian Scholarship

  • Elizabeth Rodman – University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Pharmacy, Boyle Family Scholarship

  • Sarah Schmidt – North Dakota State University School of Pharmacy, Marvin and Joanell Dyrstad Scholarship

  • Aisha Shokoya – Palm Beach Atlantic University Lloyd L. Gregory School of Pharmacy, Mary Munson Runge Scholarship

  • Axel Vazquez-Deida – University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy, George F. Archambault Scholarship


The recipients will be recognized at the APhA Foundation Contributors’ Breakfast during the 2017 APhA Annual Meeting and Exposition in San Francisco on Monday, March 27, 2017.


The scholarships recognize those students who choose to invest their time through active involvement in their school’s APhA-ASP chapter. These exceptional students help shape the future of the pharmacy profession while managing the demands of a full-time curriculum. Student scholarship recipients are selected by the dedicated members of the Student Scholarship Review Committee. The 2017 review committee included Nancy Alvarez, Cynthia Boyle, Elizabeth Johnson, Pamela Koss Justice, Lisa Martin, Marissa Salvo, April Shaughnessy, Angela Olenik, and also Jean Cottrell for her input on the Archambault Scholarship recipient.
