WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Foundation has selected thirty pharmacists to receive an Incentive Grant in the 2019-2020 cycle. Twenty-eight of the grants are awarded for Practitioner Innovation in Pharmaceutical Care and two are awarded for Practitioner Innovation in Immunization Practices. The Incentive Grants program provides recipients with seed funds to initiate or sustain existing innovative patient care services within their scope of practice.
“We are grateful to continue our collaboration with the Community Pharmacy Foundation (CPF),” said Elizabeth Keyes, RPh, APhA Foundation Executive Director. “They have generously supported the Incentive Grant program in championing pharmacists, residents and students who are introducing new ideas on ways to improve the health for patients in neighborhoods around the country.”
Established in 1993, the Incentive Grants for Practitioner Innovation in Pharmaceutical Care is the longest running program by the APhA Foundation. Incentive Grant funds have been provided for more than 530 projects that have improved health outcomes for thousands of patients nationwide. The Practitioner Innovation in Pharmaceutical Care incentive grants are supported through the Community Pharmacy Foundation, the Daniel A. Herbert Incentive Grant Endowment, and proceeds from the APhA Foundation Annual Fund. The Immunization Incentive Grants are underwritten through the Immunization Fund.
This year’s Incentive Grant projects address some of the country’s most current health issues. Topics include an examination of patient knowledge and perceptions of opioid drugs and naloxone in a community setting; and, the analysis of community pharmacists’ knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and practices about Cannabidiol (CBD) products.
