APhA Foundation Announces New Scholarship Endowment

Updated: Jul 4

Washington, DC –The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the Pharmacists Mutual Community Pharmacy Scholarship endowed by the Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company. The academic-based scholarship will fund up to five scholarships, awarded annually, to pharmacy students committed to advancing the future of community pharmacy in the United States.

“Over 100 years ago, Pharmacists Mutual was established to serve pharmacists and provide them peace of mind,” said Edward J. Yorty, president and CEO of Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company.  “As a true mutual company with no stockholders, Pharmacists Mutual’s primary focus is on its members and the pharmacy profession. These scholarships are another way for the company to help advance the profession by assisting the next generation of pharmacists. This support would not be possible without our member policyholders.”

The scholarships will be awarded to students who plan to practice in an independent or small chain community pharmacy, or an underserved geographic or cultural community (preferably in an independent or small chain community pharmacy) or intend to enter the armed forces. Overarching consideration is given to the applicant’s outstanding student leadership, pharmacy association, and community service.

“We appreciate Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company for initiating a scholarship to encourage a thriving community pharmacy base in areas across the country,” said APhA Foundation Executive Director, Elizabeth K. Keyes, RPh.  “It significantly increases our capacity to invest in future pharmacists as they evolve from students to trusted community health providers.”

The APhA Foundation scholarship application cycle begins in September and decisions will be announced in early 2019.
