Gabriela Gaytan

Col. Jerry Ross Scholarship

University of Houston College of Pharmacy

Gabriela Gaytán is a third-year pharmacy student at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy who earned her Bachelor of Science in Public Health from Texas A&M University in 2022. Originally from McAllen, Texas, she is motivated by a desire to give back to underserved communities. As one of approximately 1% of Latina women in the United States pursuing a doctoral degree, Gabriela is passionate about amplifying underrepresented voices and fostering spaces where people feel seen and supported.

She has held multiple leadership roles within APhA-ASP and currently serves as Chapter President and Co-founding Chair of Operación Farmacia, a culturally focused patient outreach initiative. Through this initiative, Gabriela has led annual health fairs in the Rio Grande Valley in partnership with DHR-Health, bringing pharmacy students from Houston to provide patient care and education.

Gabriela serves as an executive team member of Phi Lambda Sigma and is also a member of Rho Chi, the national leadership and academic honor societies in pharmacy. She currently serves as the Phi Lambda Sigma Leadership Challenge Chair, where she led a statewide leadership project highlighting Texas pharmacy leaders through interviews, social media content, and a formal written report. This work received external recognition from the Texas Pharmacy Association, which featured the project and awarded her Student of the Month.

Grounded in the belief that leadership is service, Gabriela values mentorship, collaboration, and advocacy. She hopes to pursue a career in pharmacy that integrates patient care, leadership, and community engagement while continuing to uplift future student leaders.
