I am excited about the potential of generative AI to transform patient education by creating clear materials tailored to patients in the primary care setting. By enhancing health literacy, this technology can empower individuals to take a more active role in managing their health.

This project was inspired by the need to improve the clarity and accessibility of patient education materials in primary care. Many existing resources are written at reading levels that exceed national recommendations, limiting their usefulness for patients with lower health literacy. By leveraging generative AI, we seek to efficiently produce accurate, easy-to-understand materials that support informed decision-making and patient empowerment.

I’m excited to explore how generative AI can enhance the way we deliver health information to patients, especially as this technology becomes increasingly integrated into clinical practice. Receiving an Incentive Grant provides a valuable opportunity to collaborate with pharmacists and physicians at my site to evaluate the accuracy of AI-generated materials, ensuring they are not only readable, but also clinically sound and trustworthy.
