Reimbursement for Clinical Services Provided by Independent Community Pharmacists

Mary Louise Andersen.png

I am honored to be selected for the APhA Incentive Grant and excited about the impact this project will have on both our community and the pharmacy profession. Goldendale Pharmacy is dedicated to closing healthcare gaps in rural Washington, and this initiative supports the long-term sustainability of our efforts by focusing on fair reimbursement for clinical services.

Little is known about rates of reimbursement and potential for revenue generation when pharmacists bill for patient care services through medical benefits. Our pharmacists are already providing clinical services in our medically underserved communities. It is essential that they are appropriately reimbursed by insurers to sustain and expand these services.

What excites me most is that pharmacists are finally able to utilize the full scope of their training to provide essential services to patients. I’m committed to ensuring they are fairly reimbursed for the clinical care they provide and look forward to evaluating reimbursement rates and the percentage of successfully paid claims for medically billed pharmacist services.
