Three-Year Impact of Community Pharmacist-led Transitions of Care Model: A Retrospective Analysis

Royce Li is a pharmacy resident at University Medical Center in El Paso, TX.

“Current guidelines for non-alcohol fatty liver disease (NAFLD) recommend weight loss through diet and exercise as the primary treatment. Recent findings for pharmacological interventions have shown that glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor analogs have beneficial effects on hepatic steatosis and inflammation while other anti-obesity medications have limited data. I am motivated to explore the effects of weight loss services on NAFLD specific to a medically underserved population.

I am excited about expanding pharmacist-led weight loss services for a unique and diverse border population in El Paso, Texas. My site is a not-for-profit healthcare system and home to the region’s only Level 1 trauma center, making services available to all, regardless of their ability to pay. As a result, I am happy to incorporate weight-loss services improving overall health in a primarily underserved population from both sides of the US-Mexico border.”
