Evaluating Artificial Intelligence Accuracy vs. Pharmacist Decisions in an International Travel Health Clinic

The motivation behind this project was to explore the growing role of AI in healthcare and its potential impact on pharmacy practice. Many patients use the internet for medical guidance; therefore, it is important to understand whether AI tools can provide accurate, guideline-based recommendations, especially when it comes to travel consultations. By comparing AI-generated recommendations to previous pharmacist recommendations, this study aims to compare the accuracy of travel health recommendations generated by a generative language model in comparison to those by a travel health pharmacist.
I’m truly honored to receive this Incentive Grant, as it gives me the opportunity to explore how technology and pharmacy can come together in meaningful ways. Through this project, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of how artificial intelligence can be thoughtfully integrated into travel health, while highlighting the essential role pharmacists play in delivering individualized, evidence-based care. By combining innovation with clinical expertise, this work aims to help shape the future of pharmacy and promote safer, more informed health decisions for travelers around the world.
