Fabiola Gallardo Penchi is a Pharmacy Resident with The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy in Iowa City, IA.

“The community pharmacist is in frequent contact with patients and is a prime access point for education. As pharmacists we may provide a crucial service by implementing CGM management, assisting with patients' understanding of CGM reports and facilitating lifestyle modifications that may lead to positive disease-related outcomes.

I have learned that the best way to empower patients is to provide them with the best tools and education possible. Taking the time to explain and educate might seem simple but in an increasingly busy community pharmacy it can pose challenges. Changing to a service-based structure ensures that patients have the opportunity to make decisions about their health with the assistance of a pharmacist.

Being able to make connections with participants and assist them in their journey of improving and understanding their health. I am beyond excited to be able to implement my project and see what the product will be.”
