Assessing the Impact of Pharmacist-led Evaluation and Intervention Using the Asthma Impairment and Risk Questionnaire (AIRQ) in Patients with Uncontrolled Asthma

“I am grateful to receive this incentive grant and am excited to see the role a pharmacist can play in targeting and optimizing guideline-directed care for patients.
The motivation behind this project stems from the idea that pharmacists can play a role in targeting and evaluating patients with uncontrolled asthma who may be overutilizing their rescue inhaler. As new guidelines emphasize the importance of regular screenings to determine exacerbation risks, evaluating the screening tools that are used is important. This study aims to examine two screening tools to determine their differences in patient's exacerbation risk scores before and after clinical interventions.
I am most excited about bringing this project to life and potentially offering a new service for patients. Seeing the impact of a screening service for patients with uncontrolled asthma within the community pharmacy setting will help us understand their condition and how to help optimize the care they are receiving while furthering the practice of pharmacy.”
