Identification of Immunization Gaps Among Patients Treated with Immunosuppressive Therapies for Dermatologic and Rheumatoid Conditions

The motivation behind my project is addressing vaccine knowledge and adherence gaps that impact health outcomes for patients with rheumatological and dermatological conditions treated with immunosuppressive therapies. This population is at an increased risk not only of contracting an infection but having worse outcomes if they do. By educating these patients on vaccine recommendations specific to their disease state, I am hopeful we can have a positive impact on their long-term health. As pharmacists in the specialty space, we are consistently providing education about their disease state and medications which places us in an excellent position to provide these recommendations as a trusted member of their healthcare team.
What excites me about this project is providing education directly to patients. While designing the project, the focus was connecting patients to work as a team to protect their health through multiple pathways. By focusing on pharmacy as a proactive field, we can make a difference in our patients' lives now and in the future.
