joseph chen

University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy

Joe Chen is a 3rd year student pharmacist at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Pharmacy. Being part of the accelerated pharmacy track, Joe completed 2 years of undergraduate studies at and received his Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences degree and a minor in chemistry last year from the University of Pittsburgh.

Ever since his 1st professional year, Joe has had a deep passion for the policy and advocacy side of pharmacy and helping achieve health equity through legislative means. As a result, has been actively involved with the two policy organizations at his school: American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists and Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association. He currently serves as the APhA-ASP Policy Vice President and the president of the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association, and so far, has planned and hosted 23 (and counting!) policy and advocacy focused events for Pittsburgh pharmacy students during the 2022-2023 academic school year. He is also very involved with and has leadership roles in other pharmacy organizations including Kappa Psi, ISPOR - The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research, Rho Chi, and Phi Lambda Sigma.

Outside his involvement with pharmacy school, Joe currently is a pharmacy intern at an independent pharmacy in Pittsburgh, the Pitt college brand ambassador for Victory Brewing, a server at a local, family-owned sushi restaurant, and was the Pitt college brand ambassador for Red Bull. While Joe is very involved with policy, his passion and professional interests also surround making positive, meaningful differences on a community level via impactful patient interactions. In his free time, he enjoys going to EDM concerts, playing volleyball and spikeball with friends, and going to the gym to help alleviate stress!
