Whitney dovel

SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF PHARMACY

 

Whitney Dovel, originally from Dalhart, Texas, is a third-year student pharmacist currently studying at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) in Weatherford, Oklahoma. In addition to the Doctor of Pharmacy, she is completing a degree specialization in Pharmacy Leadership, Innovation, and Quality Outcomes. 

As a student pharmacist, Whitney has greatly contributed to the success of the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) chapter at SWOSU. Whitney was responsible for the development of Operation Brain and has served as a member or taken on leadership roles with every APhA-ASP committee, including service as Policy & Advocacy Vice-President. She was selected to attend the APhA Institute on Substance Use Disorders in Salt Lake City, Utah. As the winner of the local 2020 Patient Counseling Competition, she will be representing SWOSU at the APhA National Patient Counseling Competition in National Harbor, MD.  Whitney is currently the chapter president of the Phi Lambda Sigma Pharmacy Leadership Society and is the editor of the SWOSU College of Pharmacy yearbook. She is an active member of the Oklahoma Pharmacists Association and the Oklahoma Society of Health-System Pharmacists. 

Whitney is passionate about health literacy and improving access to quality healthcare. She has dedicated her time and skills to serving patients in both local and international communities. Whitney is a three-time volunteer and recruiter for the SWOSU Global Brigades Medical Mission Trips to Panama, where students operate free health clinics for patients in underserved areas. Her future professional interests include completing PGY-1 and PGY-2 residencies with specialization in ambulatory care and then eventually transitioning into academia. Whitney is thankful for the support she has received from her family, friends, mentors, and professors throughout this journey.
