Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
My name is Isabelle Tharp and I am honored to have been selected for the Gloria Francke Scholarship through the APhA Foundation Scholarship Program. I am from Dubuque, Iowa and currently am a third-year student pharmacist at Drake University with a diabetes concentration. During pharmacy school, I have become extremely involved in the American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP). I have served as the Social Media Chair, President-elect and currently serve as the President of the organization at Drake. I have been able to participate in two Midyear Regional Meetings and the 2019 Summer Leadership Institute (SLI) through APhA-ASP. I currently work as a pharmacy intern at Methodist West Hospital in West Des Moines and within the past year have served as a Legislative Intern for Representative John Forbes (RPh) in the Iowa House of Representatives and served as the 2020 Executive Intern for the Iowa Pharmacy Association (IPA). In addition to APhA-ASP, I am a member of Phi Lambda Sigma and have served on multiple committees within IPA. Through my experiences at the Iowa State Capitol and lobbying at Capitol Hill during SLI, I have found a passion for pharmacy policy. I look forward to exploring a career path that allows me to make large-scale administrative changes in the pharmacy world or working one-on-one with patients to assist them with their medication therapy regimens.
