Project Proposal: A Collaborative Approach Between Extension and Community Pharmacy to Increase Vaccine Education and Immunization Rates in Diverse Populations

Ja’Nice Smith, fourth year student pharmacist, currently serves as a Pharmacy Practice and Science Intern at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in Lexington, Kentucky

"The motivation behind this project is to address vaccine hesitancy and barriers to immunization among underserved communities in Kentucky. Pharmacists play a significant role in vaccinating their local communities and it is our duty to continue to combat misconceptions surrounding vaccines. Our team strives to educate our community on the importance of vaccines to both personal and public health."

"I am grateful to be given the opportunity to address social inequalities and support our underserved in Kentucky. This grant will allow us to continue our clinics and further our mission to increase vaccine access and education to our community."

“We believe that utilizing a collaborative approach that draws from the strengths of both local extension and pharmacies will expose and address barriers to immunizations across rural and minority communities throughout Kentucky.”
