2024 Incentive Grant Recipient

2024 Incentive Grant Recipient: Hayley Wells, PharmD

Project Proposal: Impact of A Pharmacist-Led Smoking Cessation Service on Changes in Patients’ Attitudes Towards Smoking and Changes in Behavioral Measures

Hayley Wells is a PGY1 Specialty Community-Based Resident with Walgreens in Kansas City, MO. She graduated from University of Missouri-Kansas City.

“Quitting smoking is a hard battle and does not have to be fought alone. Community pharmacists are a highly accessible healthcare professional that can provide effective behavioral support to patients who are wanting to quit smoking.”

"My motivation for this project was to provide patients the help they need on their path to smoking cessation, as well as strengthen the community pharmacist’s role in patient care. Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. Community pharmacists are positioned uniquely in healthcare to provide the convenient help that patients need on their journey to quit smoking."

"I’m excited about this project because I get to connect with and help patients on a lifechanging journey. I am also so excited about receiving an Incentive Grant to help fund the project as this will help provide copay assistance for our patients that need help affording nicotine replacement therapy, such as nicotine patches or gum. Our site in Kansas City primarily serves the underserved and many patients here do not have insurance, so being able to provide this assistance to them is truly amazing."
