Project Proposal: Pharmacist Engagement to Improve Medication Access for UNCA Students

Gina Joy, PharmD currently serves as the PGY1 Community Pharmacy Resident at Walgreens in Asheville, North Carolina.

"The transition to adulthood can pose challenges for anyone. One of the more difficult aspects to navigate is the independent management of healthcare. We hope that the addition of pharmacists in the campus health setting may be able to increase accessibility, provide medication monitoring, and provide education for independent healthcare management."

"As a young adult myself, I struggled with the independent transition into the “adult world.”  The healthcare system is a confusing place to navigate, even for a pharmacist.   It is my hope to empower the student population by providing resources and support so that they may feel confident in managing their medication regimens."

"I choose to do a community-based residency specifically for opportunities such as this one.  I am passionate about developing lasting relationships with patients in the community.  I am excited to see how building the pharmacist-patient relationship early in adulthood may affect a patient's overall confidence in utilizing the healthcare system. Thank you for your support, APhA Foundation!"
