2023 Incentive Grant Recipient

2023 Incentive Grant Recipient: Brianna Nelson, PharmD

Project Proposal: Assessing the Barriers to Medication Adherence in Patients Participating in a Pharmacist Led Diabetes Management Program with Waived Copays

Brianna Nelson, Pharm D currently serves as the PGY1 Community-based Pharmacy Leadership and Administration Resident at Wiggins/Southwire Family Pharmacy in Carrollton, Georgia

"In order to help our patients achieve their health goals, we must first fully understand their perspectives on medications."

"Cost and access to services have seemingly always been deemed the biggest barriers to adherence. But, even when those barriers are eliminated, the problem of adherence remains, emphasizing that medication adherence is a complex and multifactorial issue. It is my hope to provide further research in this area, ultimately improving patient care and health outcomes. "

"I am abundantly grateful to receive an Incentive Grant to get the opportunity to focus on a topic that is a constant issue in our profession. I am excited to work towards preventing avoidable complications, by highlighting barriers patients experience to medication adherence."
