In 2007, the American Pharmacists Association Foundation established the Immunization Fund to support APhA’s more than 20 years of leadership in advancing pharmacists’ role in improving our nation’s health.
The Immunization Fund supports the annual Innovation in Immunization Practices Incentive Grant. These grants allow practitioners and student pharmacists to explore innovations specifically designed to improve immunization-related practices and engagement within immunization neighborhoods. Over the years, these grants have assisted with protecting underserved, high-risk, or vulnerable populations from preventable diseases. Past recipients took several approaches to improve their communities by analyzing payer models, reporting requirements, or practitioner knowledge. In addition, grant recipients were successfully able to expand access to vaccines for influenza, pneumococcal infection, human papillomavirus, zoster, Tdap, and more.
Dr. Christine Chim, a 2018 Innovation in Immunization Practices Incentive Grant recipient, emphasizes the important role pharmacists take in public health through vaccinations: “We are excited to be able to extend our reach to more individuals in [marginalized] communities, and to continue demonstrating the value of pharmacists providing immunizations and preventative health education.”
The APhA Foundation encourages support for the Immunization Fund from the pharmacist community.
