Amy Kang

Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy

 

Amy Kang is a third-year student pharmacist at the Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy (LLUSP).  Amy graduated from University of California, Los Angeles with a B.S. in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics. During her undergraduate years, she received The President’s Volunteer Service Award from an initiative of the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation for her exceptional volunteering activities.  During her first year of pharmacy school at Loma Linda University, she was selected as one of eight students to represent her school at the annual California Pharmacy Student Leadership conference.  She stayed involved in several pharmacy professional organizations including APhA, CPhA, CSHP, and AMCP.  During her second year, she served APhA-ASP LLUSP chapter as a president-elect.  She was the first student from Loma Linda University that attended Utah School on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, receiving proper training on the latest methods and techniques in the field of substance abuse education, prevention and treatment.  During her third year, as a president of APhA-ASP LLUSP Chapter, she innovated the chapter by re-organizing seven committees and reinstating APhA community outreach projects including Operation Diabetes, Operation Heart, and Generation Rx.

She is a member of Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society and Phi Lambda Sigma – Pharmacy Leadership Society.  She also serves as a clinical research coordinator under the direct supervision of her mentor, Dr. Lee Nguyen.  She is involved in various clinical research projects including C. sakazakii case report, prolonged infusion of Zosyn in elderly patients with pseudomonas aruginosa pneumonia infection, and levofloxacin restriction program on urinary tract infections.  She presented her research findings at various conferences including CSHP Annual Meeting, CPhA West Coast Pharmacy Exchange, ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting, and Annual Postgraduate Conference. 

As an intern pharmacist at Kaiser Permanente Mission Viejo Pharmacy, she enjoys patient counseling, preparing medication, and resolving various issues.
