Samford University

Grant Smith is a second-year pharmacy student at Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy. During his time as a student pharmacist, Grant has been actively involved in the American Pharmacists Association - Academy of Student Pharmacists. In his current role as the chair of Samford’s International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation committee, he has created new innovative ideas to talk about international pharmacy and global health. Some of his current projects include creating a virtual intercultural exchange program with a medical school in Brazil, creating new forums for discussion of international pharmacy practices, and hosting events to raise awareness for a myriad of global health topics.

Outside of involvement with APhA-ASP, Grant is actively involved in other pharmacy associations including the Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research, SSHP, the Rho Chi Honors Society, and the Alabama Pharmacy Association.

Apart from his active involvement in his pharmacy program, Grant will earn a minor in world languages and cultures in May of 2022. While pursuing his minor, he studied Latin American history and government and reached proficiency in Spanish and Portuguese. In his free time, Grant loves to travel and meet new people from around the world. His travels have led to his participation in an internship at Farmacorp, a chain pharmacy in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. While there, he explored innovative pharmacy operation strategies and discovered unique differences between pharmacy practice in Bolivia and the U.S. These differences included law, medication dispensing, clinical duty and judgment, education, and patient perception. In the future, he hopes to learn more about international pharmacy practice and to continue to expose student pharmacists from around the U.S to topics of international pharmacy practice and global health.
