Kayla Leland is a 4th year student pharmacist at Washington State University College of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences. Prior to pharmacy school, Kayla graduated from Whitworth University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science and Chemistry, along with a minor in Spanish. She is from Spokane, Washington where she graduated as valedictorian from Gonzaga Preparatory High School in 2014.

Leland has received national recognition for her academic and athletic achievements. She was named a finalist for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award in 2018, was named the 2020 Walter Byers Scholar, and was chosen as an NCAA Today’s Top 10 Award recipient in 2021, which recognizes the top student-athletes in the nation. Leland graduated from Whitworth University with Summa Cum Laude honors, while also becoming a 7-time NCAA All-American athlete in cross-country, track & field, and basketball.

During her time as a student pharmacist, Kayla has been actively involved in various pharmacy organizations including APhA-ASP, WSPA, and NCPA. She was named to the Rho Chi Honor Society – Epsilon Chapter for being in the top 20% of the pharmacy class. Furthermore, Kayla was on the Dean’s List every semester and has achieved a class rank of 1, representative of the highest course average percent for the entire WSU College of Pharmacy Class of 2022. Leland will graduate this spring with her doctorate degree.

Leland’s involvement in the American Pharmacists Association - Academy of Student Pharmacists is noteworthy. She has led numerous vaccination clinics where she has administered countless vaccines to members of her community and beyond. Additionally, she participated in the American Heart Association Heart Walk along with numerous pharmacy outreach events, informative teaching sessions, and extensive community service volunteering. Leland works as a Pharmacy Intern at various pharmacies in her community, including Kaiser Permanente and Rosauers Supermarkets Pharmacy. She is very passionate about providing patients and customers with the best medication advice. Pharmacists are looked upon as one of the most trusted and accessible healthcare providers. As a future pharmacist, Kayla states that she hopes her care will have a ripple effect on others by impacting the lives of her customers and the lives of those close to them for the better.
