Miao Lai is a third-year pharmacy student at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy. Prior to pharmacy school, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry from the University of Utah.
As a student pharmacist, Miao has been actively involved in the American Pharmacists Association - Academy of Student Pharmacists. She served as the APhA-ASHP Communication Vice President, Generation Rx Committee Member, Diabetes Committee Member, Women’s Health Committee Member, OTC Medicine Safety Committee Member, and Operation Heart Committee Member. She is also very heavily involved in other pharmacy associations, including Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS), Utah Society of Health-System Pharmacists (USHP), National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), and the Utah Pharmacy Association (UPhA).
Outside of involvement with APhA, Miao has worked in the pharmacy field for five years, with experience in mental health first aid, precision medicine, and advanced community practice. Currently, she holds a pharmacy consultant job at a medical laboratory institution and a pharmacy intern position at an independent pharmacy in Salt Lake City, Utah. In addition, her professional interests include addiction medicine, academia, medication safety, patient-centered care, pharmacogenomics, precision medicine, and advocating the pharmacy profession. After graduation, she is passionate about pursuing a fellowship in clinical pharmacogenomics to continue helping individuals experiencing cardiovascular disease, cancer, depression, pain, and other specific disease states.
