Project Proposal: Assessing the impact of community pharmacists on diabetes knowledge, hemoglobin A1c, and cholesterol in patients with pre-diabetes and patient with diabetes

Paul Dossett, PharmD, currently serves as the PGY1 Community-based Pharmacy Resident at Poole’s Pharmacy in Marietta, Georgia.

Diabetes education has quickly become initial therapy due to the improvement on patient mortality, A1c, cholesterol, and body measures. With the chronic increase in the diagnosis of diabetes and the constant evolving role of community pharmacists in patient care this data will support the pharmacist’s knowledge and skill. The purpose of the research is to evaluate the community pharmacist’s impact on diabetes education

I am truly grateful to receive an Incentive Grant, and I am excited to begin implementing a new clinical service at Poole’s Pharmacy to aid in providing patient-centered care. I hope this project highlights the potential impact community pharmacists can have in improving patient outcomes.
