Project Proposal: Developing Patient Communications for Pharmacist-Administered COVID-19 Vaccines

Kristine Hoang, Pharm.D. Candidate, is currently a P4 student at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN.

"We hope that by providing pharmacies with tailored educational materials that are accurate and accessible, we can help Tennessee pharmacists with their COVID-19 immunization efforts and promote public health."

During my rotation at the Tennessee Pharmacists Association, I had the unique opportunity be a part of their collaboration with the department of health regarding the pharmacy-administered COVID-19 vaccine program. It is more apparent than ever that pharmacists play a central role in public health by educating our patients and increasing vaccination rates. We wanted to make the job easier for pharmacies by providing them with accurate yet patient-friendly materials to augment their counseling.

I am most excited that I get to contribute, even if marginally, to the broader public health effort to combat the pandemic. My biggest hope is that pharmacies will find our project helpful in educating their patients and promoting pharmacy-based immunization. Not only will it protect our communities, but it will also reinforce the fact that pharmacists are trustworthy, accessible, and indispensable healthcare providers.
