Project Proposal: PROvision of a VaccIne EDucation IntErvention for Community Pharmacists: Recommendations for People Living with HIV (PROVIDE Study)

Alexander Maciejewski, PharmD, MSLD, currently serves as the PGY-1 Community Pharmacy Resident at Albertsons Companies in the Jewel-Osco Division in Darien, Illinois

The pharmacists’ role in providing care to PLWH has expanded and evolved over the past several years in effort to assist healthcare providers and patients to achieve successful outcomes and live a long, healthy, and safe life. Additionally, patient outcomes have improved through increased medication adherence, reduced pill burden along with dosing frequency, increased CD4 cell counts, higher rates of viral suppression, and decreases in medication errors by involving pharmacists in the direct care of PLWH. He believes this study will demonstrate the role community pharmacists can make in providing the most up-to-date information surrounding vaccination recommendations for PLWH to a broad range of community-pharmacy practice settings and overcoming any hurdles with the continuum of care in PLWH.

This project will provide a unique, educational opportunity for pharmacists to further enhance the immunization services which we provide to community, particularly for people living with HIV (PLWH). I am truly honored to receive the incentive grant this year and thankful for this opportunity. I am excited to see the impact community pharmacists will be able to make by further expanding their role in increasing immunizations rates in PLWH.
