Project Proposal: Public Awareness of Mental Health First Aid and Perception of Community Pharmacists as Mental Health First Aid Providers

“One hope for my research proposal is to identify if patients would be comfortable discussing mental health needs with a community pharmacist trained in Mental Health First Aid. If patients are uncomfortable talking to pharmacists about mental health, I aim to promote patient education about community pharmacists as resources for questions about mental health disorders and how to seek help for mental health conditions.”

Katie Dollar, PharmD currently serves as the Community Pharmacy Resident at Price Chopper Pharmacy in Overland Park, KS. Dr. Dollar hopes to identify the need for mental health services in a sample of participants, determine public awareness about Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), and determine public perception about community pharmacists as MHFA providers.
